Visiting Support
What – Visiting Support is part of the Gateway Consortiom. Gateway Visiting Support is a partnership between Bethany Christian Trust, The Rock Trust, Fresh Start and the Salvation Army. We seek to provide support for up to six months to those in housing crisis with a view to moving people into settled accommodation and preventing people who are in tenancies from becoming homeless. We can work across all housing tenures including: private lets, City of Edinburgh and Housing Association Tenancies, supported accommodation and temporary accommodation.
Visiting Support can offer help with:
- Budgeting and Financial Support: income maximisation and budgeting
- Tenancy Support: help in finding and sustaining an appropriate tenancy
- Support with Addictions: support workers will refer and signpost to specialist agencies
- Support with Health Issues: supporting service users to access medical services
- General Wellbeing: support to improve confidence and self-esteem
- Employment & Training : help service users to gain the necessary skills and confidence for employment, volunteering and/or training
- Social Support: helping service users to get to know their local area and build positive relationships
- Lifeskills: support service users to gain the skills necessary to keep their tenancy and avoid repeat homelessness
- Befriending: through Fresh Start we can provide befrienders who can provide social support, breakdown isolation and help people develop intependent living skills
Why – Enabling people to sustain independent living within the community.
For – People over 16 who are either affected by or threatened with homelessness and are working towards accessing their own accommodation
Where – Historically developed and delivered in Glasgow, this service is now working in Edinburgh.
