Our Adult Literacy and Numeracy tutor continues to work throughout Move On’s services, complementing and developing the group provision. Service users who need more intense support on a one to one basis are able to access individual support.
The service aims to increase literacy and numeracy levels amongst the service users and enable them to feel more confident in their reading, writing, spelling, number work and oral communication. Move On’s ALN tutor does this through facilitating Communication Workshops.
The tutor provides a weekly two-hour session combining reading, writing, spelling, number work, language and IT. The service users work together, on projects of their choice and alternate this with the Move On Newsletter. The tutor also provides a 1:1 service, engaging the service users in a comfortable, private environment.
It is imperative that the sessions are engaging, creative, fun and combine learning with support. The ALN Service is also involved in integrated work, linking with IT training and Move On’s Aftercare Service, in particular, producing C.V’s, job applications etc and the production of the service user newsletter.
The tutor also supports groupwork and provides 1:1 sessions at The ARCH, a residential unit for homeless men in Bridgeton and works in partnership with other Glasgow homelessness services on various thematic service user involvement projects.
